What Jesus Is Teaching me Today; …Right NOW (35)
LESSON THIRTY-FIVE: “From Hologram To Humility”
Now I’m flat out amazed because nobody else was amazed by LESSON THIRTY-FOUR …that is, if the total absence of e-mail response is any indicator. Numbers 32 and 33 produced a substantial flow of stimulating commentary stated in a variety of postures …running from totally complimentary to totally critical (in the “negative” sense of that term). Once written, I have very little emotional attachment to any of it. I admit to being excited when something I write precipitates widespread comments from around the globe particularly when it has stimulated the individual to go directly to the SOURCE for her or his comments …because I know then that I’m “on purpose” – even when much of it happens to weigh heaviest on the “negative” side of the scale.
What caused 34 to fall flat? Does it matter? It didn’t fall flat to me – in fact it was profoundly important for me; but just before I went to bed last night, around 11:00 p.m. and about eight hours after the initial posting of 34 …I made the final check of my inbox and NADA. I confess to being somewhat “double-minded,” as on the one side I was a bit amazed at no response from number 34 while still getting varied residual responses from 32 and 33 …and on the other half I was curious about the emotional feeling from the lack of usual responses and also just a bit self-critical for allowing the drought of response to bother me. I decided, consciously, to “just forget about it.”
What is the first thing I did upon awakening this a.m., around 5:00? Yeah, I admit it; checked my e-mail …still NADA as relates to LESSON THIRTY-FOUR!
Okay, I get it, move on. What now? Almost immediately I hear “Holographic Universe” …what on earth does that have to do with anything? The last drought I had related to e-mail traffic was after the publishing of The 4th Dimension. In spite of the predictions of “best seller list” from my two most positive “critics,” Publisher, Ryan Bruce and Editor, Joy Scudder and a fantastically (for my taste) beautifully designed cover and generously approving Foreword by friend, Gary Sigler, the book “died” and the series on the website did nothing to stimulate even the more usually “admiring” critics to comment.
In that book I equated The 4th Dimension with the Biblical “Kingdom of Heaven” and had the audacity to call both a parallel universe which is totally simultaneous with, that is, ongoing RIGHT NOW …all stuff which had emanated from my excitement about the “new” physics of Quantum Mechanics – as bereft as it was of any substantively understandable knowledge on my part. I cited things now established and proven scientifically, such as the fact that particles such as electrons are able to instantaneously communicate with each other regardless of the distance separating them. It doesn’t matter whether they are in the next room, fifty miles or even fifty million light years away. Somehow each particle always knows what the other is doing IMMEDIATELY. The reason this excites me is that it proves my long-held thesis based on what Jesus said about nothing being impossible to anyone who believes enough.
The fact that this instantly transmitted knowledge bothered Einstein; even though he believed in it and that it also violated his one of the integral facets of his general theory of Relativity that no communication can travel faster than the speed of light.
Since traveling faster than the speed of light is tantamount to breaking the time barrier, this daunting prospect has caused some physicists to try to come up with elaborate ways to explain away all the scientific experimental proofs that sometimes two plus two and other basics of our universe, doesn’t add up to four. Thankfully it has inspired others to offer even more radical explanations, and even more experiments like the “double slit” experiment which basically ended the argument among classical and quantum physicists over whether light was made up of “particles” or “waves” – BOTH is the now generally accepted scientific truth and scientists still cannot even explain it!
The one thing I “got” (but didn’t understand) from all I read about Quantum Mechanics is this “impossible” BOTH phenomenon and I began to apply the concept to all the crazy theological arguments among the religious (and those who claim not to be religious, but hold onto their beliefs just as tenaciously) related to whether “God,” by whatever other title or name, has a separate existence outside us or that “we are truly ONE with” – yep, old Brad Cullen came up with that BOTH is/are true and this thesis will lead us into the second part of this treatise …devoted to “Humility.”
The “Holographic Universe” is one such explanation about this about this “BOTH/AND” concept which I don’t begin to understand even the supposedly simplest outline to which anyone has pointed me …such as Physics for Dummies only serves to prove that I’m not even up to the “dummy” level.
This is not “false humility” …I’m just not hard-wired to cope with this stuff – I believe it, whatever that means, but I do not understand Quantum Mechanics (or Physics, if you prefer) to any substantive degree whatever.
One of the most fascinating books I have ever read was The Black Hole War: My Battle with Stephen Hawking to Make the World Safe for Quantum Mechanics, by Leonard Susskind …and I read it through completely SIX TIMES! Susskind is a Physics professor at Stanford and he writes delightfully and I didn’t understand any of it, but thoroughly enjoyed it; go figure. The guy is totally humorous and explains to everyone that we shouldn’t feel badly over not understanding Quantum Mechanics because the most expert physicists in the world don’t understand it either.
He is also quick to point out that every major practical and technological advance that’s been made in past fifty years has been so advanced due to Quantum Mechanics.
Okay, enough of all that …on to something I do know and understand thoroughly: Abject humility. I may seem arrogant and proud at times, because of my level of faith in that which is BOTH beyond me AND yet in (and a part of) “me.” I have people attempting to correct me all the time about what I say and what I write, but that’s only because what I “know” and “understand” works for me. I don’t have to argue the truth of it because, if it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t work for you (period).
Now then, after all that, WHAT NOW?
Do not flinch from telling the full story and I will lead you through it. Just as I heard the words “this is my beloved son” you have heard the same words and which are the ingredients which make up the foundation of all humility …that is we know only what we are told and shown from outside ourselves and yet it becomes and, yes, IS an integral part of our being, that is, who we are. Those who argue for something different than this simply have yet to experience it …this is the reason you will now unfold the secret so that you more fully understand the phenomenon from the steps you took and which can be duplicated by anyone who wants to persevere in the same way you did …and is a necessary ingredient to get to the place simultaneously of your both understanding and not knowing which makes you appear to be arrogant while being thoroughly humbled by the understanding.
Time for a “sidebar” …one of the longtime “fans” of what I sometimes refer to as my “henscratchings” – she’s also been a marvelous source of spiritual, emotional and practical support during the depths of some of the crazy political/legal hassles which began in earnest (with my being kidnapped) back in 2003 – wrote me an e-mail response to number 34 which I opened just after I had finished transcribing the foregoing in red –by the time most of you read it Ryan will have converted the color to purple– for whatever are his reasons. She didn’t comment on anything specifically, but rather spoke of a huge “energy shift” in her that was going on and how amazing were the parallels to what I had said (in 34) and what she was “getting” …and she sent me something (247 pages, no less) by Charles Fillmore that somehow related in her mind to #34. I promised her that I’d read it and did. Per usual, Charles Fillmore demonstrated some amazing insights about that which he was writing and which spoke to her …I didn’t see ANY parallel, except for the absolute truth of what he was saying being confirmed in me, but, again, no parallels to 34. I have yet to receive any other comments on 34 from anyone else. I did have a phone conversation with Ryan who, along with me, thought that 34 is “spiritual dynamite” and who also basically agreed with my own analysis that my ego was acting up over caring about the level of response from readers.
Now, onto “Humility” and the process of getting “here” while appearing to be so arrogant and all-knowing and thus the simultaneity (a Quantum Mechanics term) of also being “there” – thankfully our (your and my) “elder brother,” “ascended master,” “Son of God,” “Prophet” and “Master Teacher” who earlier said he was committing to be all these things to all people so that some of them would be drawn to I AM through him …just gave me the “go ahead” to unravel the process. I’m sensing that this will be the longest chapter in this series and the book to follow, but I’m not supposed to cut it into separate sections …so you get to rest whenever you want and just put it down for a bit – or, per usual, throw it away. This is all for me, remember, and you either relate to it or you don’t, my instructions are to share it and you need to follow your own instructions and not let anything I write impede you from going directly to get your own.
Oh, my, this is not a twist I expected whatsoever! I just had an urge to go to the bathroom and in typical male fashion looked around for something to take with me to read. My eyes landed on a shelf copy of “my” book, Being Jesus. I immediately passed that off as being not what I wanted …the urgent need to “go” passed. It had to happen three times for me to finally get the drift. So into the “library” I went with Being Jesus in tow.
I no sooner sat down than I knew I was supposed to go to chapter 3. This is the “humility” to share. At first I didn’t get it, because I thought from the earlier instructions that I probably had to go through a long laundry list of my experiences …not so. I’m simply to transcribe chapter 3 …right here and now and those of you who are open to receiving will receive.
Being Jesus …Chapter Three
(Moving on from Discipleship to Mastery)
There is no argument that we are being “radical” …from this particular meaning of the word in the number one adjective form choice from one dictionary: Radical –adjective
1. of or going to the root or origin; fundamental: a radical difference.
After several days of non-stop dialogue with a close friend, a Christian college professor, during which he had been urging me to stop continually referencing organized Christianity …except for contrast when the context of an article demanded it. I finally responded, “Okay, what you are telling me is to stop beating on a dead horse.”
We both immediately saw the metaphor (beating on a dead horse) in the light of its possible, perhaps probable, urtext (a German word to which he introduced me, meaning the original work of a writing or a music score; and with which we played around in relationship and in context to the Bible in its original-language form) …dead horses in days gone by were the primary source of glue-making.
Beating on a dead horse, therefore, we both reasoned, must have referred to the fact that when we do so it tends to keep us stuck (glued to) where we are instead of moving on.
So, moving on to radical as being a reference to departing from something viewed as fundamentally true, I feel compelled to not only closely examine it, but to make the contrast.
Being Jesus seems radical only because those of us, who have had our spiritual genesis in the thought that Jesus is special and unique, have missed one of the points he continually made: He came to be an example of what we can be, not an icon of worship.
If we are truly to be followers, that is, disciples – in the fully formed version, we will be exactly like Jesus in one very specific way, which is that our “I” identity that was attached to the names of the body-bags we occupy, by earthly parents, no longer exists.
That identity is dead and buried, if you will, with Jesus and it is no longer “I” who lives, but Christ who lives in me.
Please consider, again, Jesus said it wasn’t “him” who performed miracles, but the SOURCE, the Christ, living in him that performed the miracles and spoke the words, it is the same with us. If we have to talk about “our” ministry, or “our” gifts, we are barking up the wrong tree.
Healing power and Spiritual healing take place when we are free from “our” anything …“I” didn’t do it, HE did it. Get it? I hope so.
Patronizing? If “I” said it, it certainly could be called that, but you see, “I” didn’t say it, HE in me said it.
My beginning for viewing Jesus-the-man as special and unique came from the emphasis on one Bible verse, which I now contend and will explain why — that it is/was taken out of context. John in his Gospel referred to Jesus as the “only begotten Son of God.”
How clear can you get, right? “Only begotten” …certainly sounded unique to me. From John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son (emphasis mine), that none should perish, but have everlasting life” …the essence of the Gospel as is still preached by many.
Surprise of all surprises to many will be to find out that I believe it is true. Here, however, is where we begin RADICAL. My contention, and I believe it is directly from the SOURCE of everything, is that it is only partly true, not in its urtext, i.e. original meaning, but in the interpretation by and tradition of many.
_________
To take John 3:16 in isolation, that is, without considering the context of what precedes this verse, in Chapter 1 particularly, in my view, creates a vacuum that keeps us from seeing something quite important even to the exposition of a truth that exists in the Jesus-is-special-and-unique posture. This will be what we examine first, so that we can see clearly to move on to the wider examination of how we become what Jesus said we would be and do if we believed enough …the extreme of which is being Jesus; not merely being “like” him.
Here we go: “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made.”
These are the words found in a modern English translation which purports to be loyal to both the original language and to the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible.
Let’s take it at the face value of the loyalty claimed by its publishers. The import of verse two is often missed. Again, “He was in the beginning with God.” “He” making reference to this mysterious “Word;” then “with God” indicating that this “Word” was with God – therefore, in some inexplicable way, different from God.
The immediate foregoing, to me, gives credence to the argument that John is attempting to convey something difficult to understand. First of all the “He” (this mysterious “WORD”) is an identifiable person or perhaps better stated, “personality,” or perhaps even “aspect” of God and then in the third verse of this same chapter 1, John seems to be underlining or emphasizing that this Word, “He” was the part of God who was, again, with God was the creative part of God and “who” (this WORD) did, in fact, create everything.
Here’s the rub for all of us: Whether you believe that Jesus is unique and special or that he is an example that we should be pursuing to become – and it is here at this very point we need to stop. This doesn’t need to be an either or question; we can revere Jesus as being unique and special. BECAUSE HE WAS!
The point of this dissertation is not intended to be a distraction or detraction from the special nature of Jesus’ advent on the scene, but rather as a corrective to a tradition that continues to ignore a significant part of something Jesus had to say about what true believers in him would exhibit.
This, in my mind, means BOTH – to use a couple of quantum mechanics (the modern version of physics primarily focused on sub-atomic particles) words, “complementarity” and “simultaneity” …again, not this or that, but BOTH.
Jesus is/was special and unique. Jesus did call us to be who he was as a man; and Jesus did call us to do even more than what he did as a man. Which compels me to start beating on a dead horse again …no! …my instructions are: Just ask the question:
Do you really think that performing even greater miracles than Jesus performed (that’s what he said people who believed enough would be able to do) equates to standing behind a pulpit spewing out watered-down nonsense? Then why do you sit on a pew listening to it?
I’m simply attempting to bring into the light the fact that not only did the Creator of the universe become the man we refer to as Jesus, which again, most certainly makes the appearance of Jesus on the scene, extremely special …then let’s pay attention to the things he said about our destiny of becoming him.
I feel compelled to implore you to, right now, just go directly to the ONE Jesus said would be sent to guide us into all truth, and ask, what is the truth for me?
One last bit of radical. That “ONE” Jesus said will lead us into all truth is not the Bible, folks, but the SOURCE of everything.
“Death to self,” is a widely bandied about buzz word of many. No matter what discipline we enter, we’re not talking about suicide here.
“Death to self” means a change in identity; being Jesus; no more extolling the virtue of “gifts” and “ministry” …those things bring attention to the old “I” – if you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the SOURCE, because I AM. We ARE …moving on from discipleship to mastery – being Jesus.
In Freedom,
Brad
