Chapter Twenty-Seven

For the last several days I have not looked at my e-mails – usually 15 to 20 new ones in my inbox overnight, until later in the morning. This morning I felt a nudge and verified that is what I was to do, very first thing: 4:10 a.m. Twenty-seven of them! …in the middle of the pack was this terse remark on the subject line.

SHOW ME JUST ONE VERSE!

Mr. Cullen (it began, “Mister,” now that is almost always a harbinger of some biting comment and sure enough . . .), if you can show me one verse in the Bible that says such a thing, maybe I’ll visit your site again, which has been recommended highly by somebody I tend to respect or did. But in your chapter 22 which I opened up to, which seems a bit strange to me, you say at the end and I’m surprised I waded through the rest of it to get there, “get your direction from the Voice” where on earth did you ever get such a thing and then to pass if off as truth? I will look it up in a valid translation such as the New American Standard, which obviously you have avoided in whatever study you may have done.

Daddy, shall I answer this with chapter and verse, or what? Or . . .

My response (verbatim):

Thanks for taking the time to write, _____, I’ll save you some time – I lifted the following passage off Bible Gateway on the Internet, in the New American Standard version (no less) exactly as formatted, capitals and all – may I humbly suggest that you prayerfully ask to be guided to the three places this is repeated in chapters 3 and 4 of Hebrews:

“Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,
DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME . . .”

I’m going to also be bold and say, why don’t you take it to heart? It doesn’t say if you will diligently study; in fact, in one of the repetitions in the original language (if I recall correctly — it has been awhile), it says: “Again, I say to you, if you will hear My voice and not harden your heart”

Now, _______, my interpretation might be: “by continuing to read when I I have  stated if  you will HEAR MY VOICE”

In fact, it was this passage that confirmed something I had begun asking people to please limit their praying for me to: “If you must pray for me, please ask that I listern, hear and obey HIS voice alone.”

Just add water, pray a bit and a church will grow.

I remember the year that occurred; it was 1989 on the Big Island of Hawaii, near Hilo. I felt oppressed by, let’s call it a “strange presence,” and I finally asked what it was and what to do about it. I was shown the cause. A woman was fervently praying that I would see that it was God’s will to start a church and be its pastor.

I called the couple and asked if I could drop by. I confronted her that I’d been shown she had been praying for me. She gushed, her husband nodding in agreement, “Oh yes I’ve been praying that you would see that it is God’s will to start a church and become our pastor.”

I responded gently, but firmly, “That is exactly what I’ve been shown NOT to do any longer, would you do me a favor? They both looked at me quzzically, waiting:

“If you feel called to pray for me, please pray that I listen, hear and obey HIM alone.” It was shortly after that, that I stumbled across the referenced passage …amazing, what?

It is why I call Christianity the great rebellion, _______, the emphasis on Bible study, public prayer and any number of other things that Jesus said NOT to engage in are the hallmarks of this crazy religion – if you want chapter and verse related to those things Jesus said, again, NOT to do, I will be happy to supply them if, THE VOICE of our (yours and my) SPIRIT-PARENT gives me the okay to do so.

Frankly, I prefer getting my food directly from the SOURCE and I no longer consider that to be the Bible – even though, admittedly, it provided some great grist for this particular discussion …or at least it seemed so to yours truly.

Thanks again,

Brad

What now, Daddy?

Really! I exclaimed, right now?

That’s all folks, that’s chapter 27 (a bit coincidental to the number of e-mails, don’t you agree?) …see you right back here in #28.
