In The Beginning(13)

Anywhere…anytime…anyplace, focus…

THREE

“Change Your Focus”

When I was finally able to sit down with Jack and Darlene for a few minutes, an hour and a half had already passed and very quickly at that; the crowd was beginning to thin.

“Jack, do you realize,” I began, “that precisely at the moment you stood up next to Darlene, I was silently asking what to do.  I heard the words, ‘change your focus.’ Your interruption was perfectly timed; I wasn’t supposed to speak the things I had been planning ever since our lunch. I had no clue as to how to change what I’d planned to say …this is very exciting, I have to tell you.”

“Exciting is exactly the word, isn’t it,” Darlene interposed. “What I’m seeing and I just checked in, I’m supposed to tell you, Jeanne, is that the title of the series you are to write for the magazine Destiny, is “Change Your Focus.”

“You people,” I said, wagging my head back and forth, are so amazing, you have no idea what a thrill this has been to be here. I’m only sorry that I have to leave so soon …I so wanted to meet Brad in person after all these years. To get here and find out he is in Toronto completing something for a client of your consulting business, Jack, was disappointing.”

“He’ll be back late Monday afternoon,” Jack said as a perplexed look came across his face.

Some patterns are easy to interrupt, some need extra help.

“Am I interrupting anything here?” Will Barry, had just put one hand on Darlene’s shoulder and the other on mine as he leaned over to ask the question. Will was the psychiatrist Darlene had briefly consulted for depression many years previously.  This consult along with so many other events, seemed somehow to be magically strung together as the catalyst for forming the “group of twelve” and the acquisition of their building.

“As a matter of fact, Will,” Jack replied, “I just had a very strange thought – did you have something specific in mind?”

“Tell me your thought, first, Jack, so I don’t feel so ridiculous.”

These people, the thought hit me again, so spontaneous, alive and wonderful and to think my initial writing of the Leapfrog Manuscript had been an integral part in their coming together …so amazing.

Brad’s always at the beach…

“So here goes, for your input as well, Will …I’m getting that Brad is supposed to go to Hawaii and the first article in the series you are going to be writing for Destiny, Jeanne, will be sprinkled with excerpts not just about the history and evolution of this group, but from interviewing and actually collaborating in the writing of part two of the manuscript with Brad.”

“Oh my,” I almost “gasped, that sounds so unlikely after all these years, and yet I know that it is perfect and that it is supposed to happen …if, of course, Brad agrees.”

“I’m getting that is exactly what is supposed to happen and sooner rather than later,” Darlene interrupted. “Well, Will, what say you?” She said, looking up at him with a look that was not only questioning, but had a lightly challenging tone to it.

Will Barry merely laughed in a very high pitched cackling sound which I later found out seemed to irritate everyone initially, but later became a delight when they got to know him better. I was so impressed with the whole story I’d heard about Will Barry, M.D. (now retired) and the dramatic change of his practice to being totally spiritually oriented rather than based upon traditional medicine or psychiatry, at any rate his “cackle” didn’t have any effect on me whatever.

Don’t mind the interruption.

“That’s really funny,” he finally said, composing himself very seriously, “I was standing clear over on the other side of the room talking with my wife, Ann, and Jeanne, when I noticed that you guys seemed deeply involved in a serious discussion. I heard, ‘go interrupt them.’ It made no sense, but then what about anything that’s happened today does make sense to these finite brains of ours, right? …but to answer your question, Darlene, what I’m seeing is a picture of surprise on Brad’s face Monday evening when we tell him the news that he’s going to be spending several days or even weeks with this beautiful lady – and in Hawaii, no less. Well, I’ve done my job,” he said, punctuating it with another cackle – “I’m so glad you’re here Jeanne, as Ann would say, I’ve been ‘peddling’ your first manuscript for many years.”

He looked off into space as if momentarily confused, then merely turned and walked back toward his wife.

“Jack,” I resumed our conversation, “your earlier remarks about science no longer being objective observation really struck me. Would you mind expanding on that for just a few moments?”

“Have you ever heard of the ‘Chaos Theory’ or the ‘Uncertainty Principle,’ Jeanne?”

“Jack, I have come to the conclusion that rather than feeling stupid I am actually fairly bright.

“Then Brad came along in that interview and my life was turned upside down by knocking and demanding until I was connected to universal wisdom emanating directly from Spirit. Certain aspects of science are fascinating, but like so many other topics such as religion, I find myself by-passing them with an almost purposed and studied neglect. What am I missing out on by knowing nothing about the ‘Chaos Theory’ or the ‘Uncertainty Principle?’ ”

Are you missing out?

“Missing out? …I’d hardly say that you are missing out on anything, Jeanne, those, for me, just happen to be excellent frames of scientifically-proven reference that science can no longer be construed as objective observation any more than religion or philosophy or humanities or any other systems of thought which are historically thought of as subjective.

“Both ‘Uncertainty’ and ‘Chaos’ have mathematically precise equations that unequivocally prove that you cannot predict anything with certainty and simply by studying something like some subatomic particle like a neutron or proton changes it. Precise instruments used in a variety of strictly scientific experiments have proven this over and over.

“The point I was getting at was that by using the method you described in the manuscript, tap, tap, tap and demanding to get answers directly from SPIRIT, my dependence on understanding and science upon which, engineering is dependent …was upended. You might find it interesting to do a little research on the Internet by inserting in your favorite search engine, ‘Chaos Theory’ and ‘Uncertainty Principle’ …but if you don’t you are missing nothing as far as I’m concerned.”

______

Shortly after take-off, the pilot announced a possible delay due to head winds.  So, here I am in the middle of the five hour flight from L.A. to Honolulu. I’ve already changed my watch to indicate the time in Hawaii (7:46 a.m.) Monday morning.

The team always fly’s in style…

I’d spent three hours with Sid Wilmot and Al Edmund, publisher and editor, respectively, for the magazine, “Destiny,” in the suite they had reserved for me at the Hampton Inn near the airport in Albuquerque yesterday.

They both had enthusiastically endorsed the planned series of articles and Al’s suggested subtitle: “On a Spiritual High” blended with Darlene’s “Change Your Focus.” Al had presented a generous Destiny advance check, signed by Sid along with some typed instructions on how to get to the “retreat” he owned near Captain Cook, Hawaii; 35 miles south of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.

The housekeeper who lived nearby would pick me up at the Kona International Airport at Keahole in one of Sid’s three cars kept at the “retreat” for the use of the guests.

I told them that I thought it was possible that Brad Cullen would be coming out for me to interview, and asked if there would be private quarters available for him as well. Sid said there were no other occupants planned for several months and that he would make sure the housekeeper would set up a separate place for Brad.

One rather exciting and unexpected outcome of our meeting was that they were going to e-mail me a proposal for a separate publishing contract for “Leapfrog part 2” to be discussed  with Brad …they said they would like to at least have “first rights of refusal” from both Brad and me.

What kind of Church is this?

Sid was Jewish and Al attended a Christian Science Church – yet both had read and enjoyed The Leapfrog Manuscript, as I referred to it, though it had never been published. It had come out as the “Appendix” to the novel written anonymously by Brad under the title Leapfrog and was distributed around the world digitally. A Canadian publisher picked up the book and it is still offered through Amazon –I was also told that a motion picture, based on it, is planned.

I could hardly wait to find out what Brad’s response to the “announcement” that Darlene, Jack and Will were going to hit him with tonight. I would be calling Darlene when I arrived at the retreat with the contact information. We had already exchanged e-mail addresses.

The Hawaiian Airlines flight I was connecting to in Honolulu was scheduled to land at Keahole around 2:30 p.m. and I should be settled in by around 5:00.  With all of these details running around in my mind I had a rather restless night with little sleep – and had to get up around 3:00 a.m., Albuquerque time, to catch my flight to LAX.  Still, I am totally energized and at the moment, of all things, thinking about what Jack had said about the “Chaos Theory” and the “Uncertainty Principle.”

Gazing out the window of the 757 at the sparkling expanse of the Pacific Ocean below …I was musing about what Jack Adams had said about the fact that by merely observing things they changed. Surely, just by looking at the ocean below I wasn’t having any effect on it, was I?

Can truth be universal?

I was shocked at the idea clearly coming into my mind – so clear that it was coming to me as an audible voice. “Jeanne if you want to get to universal truth you must learn not to frame your questions in a negative and thus limiting way. When you say ‘surely I am not’ as related to anything …your brain takes it as a command and will give you the answer you just demanded; both your question and answer interfere with what I have to give you.

“In just a short time you will be interviewing Brad Cullen again, but this time you both will need to be even more open to Me than you were during the first interview so that you can both receive what will be brand new to the two of you.”

“My word,” I exclaimed. The man sitting next to me said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t understand you.”

I stammered, “Oh I’m sorry, a rather strange idea just struck me, and I just blurted out my amazement to it without thinking.”

“That’s quite all right, are you coming to Hawaii on vacation?”

It can get loud when Spirit is talking…

“No, I’m an author and I have a writing assignment to do a series of articles for Destiny – it’s a magazine kind of slanted toward alternative reality. They are putting me up in a place they own on the Big Island near Kona so I can have privacy for the next several weeks; how about you, what is your purpose for coming to Hawaii?”

“I live near Honolulu; my wife and I own an import business and I’ve just been on a sales trip to some of the major retailers on the mainland. If I’m not prying I’d love to hear about your assignment.”

IN THE BEGINNING (12)

They loved it…!

TWO – Jeanne Stockwell speaks.

I was totally unprepared for the thunderous applause – the crowd came to their feet; mostly with smiles of anticipation. There was no podium, nothing to hide behind and no microphone; there was no need for a microphone; the acoustics were almost perfect. Emmanuel later told me that the building had been designed so that one could hear a pin drop from clear across the room.

“Well now,” I began, “I wasn’t nervous until just now. What can I possibly say to earn such a warm welcome? Thank you and please take your seats.” I waited for a few moments for the shuffling around of personal items and the scraping noise of the chairs to subside before beginning.

“With a show of hands, how many of you know what caused me to be invited here today?”

Just get to the point instead of questions…

Only about a half dozen hands went up. “Okay, just a few, so that means the rest of you were just being super nice with the applause, doesn’t it,” I quipped drily. That caused a ripple of laughter, so I began to relax a bit. “Is Darlene Adams here today?”

“That would be me,” said a tall, woman, simply dressed, with a strikingly pretty face, particularly since it appeared that she had no, or perhaps very little make up on. How I wish I could just get out of bed looking that good, I thought. She had short cropped, light brown hair that fit the chiseled features of her slender face and lovely blue eyes …and a big smile. She was waving her hand at me from the fifth or sixth row in the center of the semi circle. Darlene was sitting next to her husband, Jack, whom I had already met and with whom I now exchanged nods.

“Do you know why I’m here,” I asked her.

Darlene stood, looking totally at ease and self-assured, yet very friendly and open and replied, “Yes …my husband was at lunch with you, Vic Schneider, Emmanuel Patrick and Will Barry – a couple of days ago and, as I understand it, you asked them if I had any idea of the magnitude of what I had spoken during our first meeting upstairs during the afternoon of September 8, …in other words did I know, at the moment I said what I was given to say, that all the events that took place on September 11, 2001 which would happen a little after eight in the morning on the 11th were to begin in less than 72 hours – and Vic suggested that you come and ask the entire group.

The point please…

Darlene continued, “Before I answer that, Jeanne, and before you begin with whatever you have to say, I want to explain something. You looked a bit startled when we acted so excited to have you here and gave you what amounted to a standing ovation just now. Those of us who have read your interview of Brad have wanted to meet you for many years.

“Jack’s and my introduction, not just to the group, but to ‘life with a capital L’ …began for us with the reading of your interview of Brad which we have all referred to as, The Leapfrog Manuscript.  For those of us who have put into practice the exact same thing which gave you your own breakthrough into the I AM experience …and, well …to have you finally be with us is a real treat. I believe you flew here to do some interviews in order to write an article on how the group has developed in our thinking and practice – as a result of the manuscript which was based on your interview of Brad Cullen.

“As most of you are aware,” at this Darlene turned to face different parts of the crowd so that her remarks were directed to everyone, “when Jack and I flew down here to Jacksonville the first time, it was with Vic Schneider and Will and Ann Barry. Just before we boarded the plane in Chicago, Will gave Jack and me each a copy of the Leapfrog manuscript and told us he hoped we would read it in preparation for our visit at Brad’s place down on the coast.

OK I give up…

“Jack and I spent the entire flight reading and talking about it – and Jeanne’s rather profound spiritual experience which Brad first coined as “Leapfrog” because, as he expressed it, Jeanne had leapfrogged spiritually over his head, way past where he was.  Her experience and what she had written about how it had come about was solidly implanted in our minds.

“Frankly, Jeanne,” Darlene turned back to face me directly, “it wasn’t until several hours after the four commercial jets crashed on 9/11 that any of us connected them to the prophecy that I was referring to upstairs on that Saturday, three days before the fact.  This ‘prophecy’ was originally given through our daughter Debbie in an unknown language; our other daughter, Rachel, interpreted Debbie’s words into English. That had happened about three weeks earlier, and it was that ‘unknown tongue and interpretation’ that both Brad and I were referencing.

“At the time of the banquet, when I made the statement, the original twelve of us, which by then included Emmanuel and Elizabeth Patrick, were gathering each evening around nine o’clock for a time of sharing until our bedtime.  Jack and I have been trying to remember who brought it up – the only thing of which we’re fairly certain is that it was on the night of 9/11 when it dawned on all of us collectively that the prophecy was referring to 9/11.

Please tell me why Jeanne Stockwell is here…

“So to answer your question …no, I had no clue just how significant the prophecy was and neither did Brad.  It was Brad who actually introduced the topic at the banquet three days earlier, by saying something very important was coming up …and then the words just sort of started coming out of my mouth that we were all to remember that we received the message right here in our first meeting up on the second floor.”

At that, Jack Adams got to his feet alongside Darlene, and placed his arm around her shoulders and said: “I am supposed to interrupt and say something – and since I’m supposed to do it I won’t apologize for interrupting, Jeanne.” Jack said this with a disarming grin.

It was almost unbelievable to me how these two people were at the same time so relaxed and self-assured, yet so obviously filled with humility and love for everyone …there’s just no other way to express it, they exuded love, humility and yet, at the same time, an ultimate confidence that was simply wonderful to behold. I’d had the same impression with all four men at our lunch two days earlier.

If we had a leader, they could tell us why Jeanne is here…

Jack continued, “Jeanne, I’m not saying that what we decided at lunch with you, the other day, was a mistake, because it wasn’t …this is perfect, you being here with us all. As you know, one of the hallmarks of this group is that there are no leaders among us, official or otherwise. We have only one Leader and Teacher, whom many of us refer to as our SPIRIT-PARENT. We have been known to attract people from all over the world; this building has the reputation for being a place of miracles.

“Now, for those of you who are here for the first time, as you get to know some of us you will discover that we are not some sort of exclusive club. We fully believe in being inclusive.” He, just as Darlene had done, turned and looked around the room to include everyone with his remarks; Darlene had taken her seat again.

“You are all one with us simply by being here today. Since having lunch with Jeanne the other day, I have been asking for clarity and was told it would come at this gathering. Frankly, I had assumed it would come through one of the others, but I’ve just been instructed to say something right now to all of you:

“By my training and experience I am an interdisciplinary, professional engineer – an applied scientist, if you will, and an applied scientist by definition is exactly what it sounds like …my training and career before joining Brad and Bob in our consulting business, has been to apply scientific knowledge and principles to solve practical problems.

Can we all join the club?

“We have no hierarchical structure in this group, no formal organization whatsoever and almost everyone who comes to these occasional gatherings comes as a result of us getting the word out through e-mail or word of mouth. Our casually connected network of interested people joins with us from time to time at meetings like this and invited you all to come today.

“Darlene, our two daughters and I, along with the rest of our small, core group, have had spiritual experiences that defy scientific explanation, at least as some of us tend to think of science. Science, until just recently, has always been thought of as objective observation. All scientists are trained today to realize and accept the principle that the mere observation of anything, including those things which are on a sub-atomic level, causes changes, unexpected changes – sometimes dramatic …sometimes subtle. The fact is that there is no such thing as objective observation; mere observation creates change.” Jack let those words just hang there for a few seconds as he seemed to wait until he knew what he was supposed to say next.

Intimacy with Spirit is through Love

“Some of you here today came to observe and that is perfectly okay. I am supposed to say to you that you are here for a purpose. That purpose is to deepen your relationship with God,” at this Jack raised his hands demonstrating quotation marks by wiggling two fingers on both hands, around the term ‘God,’ “by whatever other title or name you prefer to use.

“As Emmanuel, who still owns this building, said when he introduced Jeanne a few moments ago, it was the interview she conducted of Brad strictly by means of e-mail, back and forth between them, and then which she compiled as the ‘manuscript’ which started many of us on our science-defying path. Our daughters, when they were still in their teens, Darlene and I all had our breakthroughs into what Darlene earlier described as ‘life with a capital L’ as a result of the manuscript. Normally we don’t talk about our individual experiences …because our experiences are not important.

“Each of us is completely individual yet our collective identity is I AM, because we are all connected to I AM as ONE. We don’t claim to understand it, I certainly don’t try to explain it, but we do experience this oneness, this unity with one another; with and in I AM.  Many people, who are still steeped in a religious belief system, as we certainly were, resist this I AM label. We have each had it confirmed to us supernaturally to so label ourselves and we all refuse to argue about it.

“If you want to know more about us, I suggest you start by reading the ‘manuscript’ which Jeanne compiled from her and Brad’s e-mail exchanges. Vic Schneider, Will Barry, Emmanuel Patrick and our other resident Irishman, Colin, will be upstairs with more than enough free copies available for each of you. There are refreshments up there as well …and you’re especially invited to c’mon up and get acquainted.

Keep writing Until.

“Jeanne, what I just heard is that you are not to speak here today, you are to write a second part to the manuscript and you will also be submitting an article to the magazine ‘Destiny’ which has assigned you to write other articles in the past. Can you confirm what I just said?”

“Can I ever! This is rather amazing, Jack, thank you. Please allow me to make just a few remarks that I have just now been given. I spoke on the phone this morning, from my hotel room, to the editor of Destiny at his home in Albuquerque. I agreed to write a series of articles that will span several monthly issues and he offered me a place on the Big Island of Hawaii to stay for the six weeks it would probably take to write them. I am flying out in the morning to Albuquerque to meet with the editor and publisher then onto Los Angeles to a connecting flight to Honolulu and then onto the Big Island of Hawaii. I suppose I’m invited up for refreshments too, Jack?”

Twice in one day…people are standing.

“You sure are, please everyone, let’s show our appreciation for Jeanne’s graciousness in being here …under our, per usual, conditions that everyone has to admit are not exactly normal.”

I was overwhelmed again at the standing ovation. What a place, what people!

______

Emmanuel came back to the front, “Well, we are never short of surprises around here – if several men …or women, I’m trying to learn not to be sexist,” he said this with a self-conscious quick laugh, “will please help fold the chairs and stack them in the back storeroom through those double doors,” he said pointing, “we can do it quickly, thank you. Everyone else please come up the stairs at either end of the building so we can get to know one another.”

IN THE BEGINNING (11)

Are groups at large good?

SECTION 2

Jeanne Stockwell Re-Appears

(From the final page of the original Leapfrog):

Arne spoke up again, “Do any of you have a sense of what is next for this building and the group at large?”

There was a long silence and then Brad finally spoke up from his chair where he remained seated:

“We know that events will soon happen which will have an impact on the thinking of people in this country and the rest of the world.”

What voice are you listening to?

…I (Darlene Adams) received the okay to say what was on my mind. “We have been told not to speculate about what these events will be…but Spirit wants each of you to remember that you heard here that the first of these events will happen very soon, in fact, within three days. Many changes will take place, and Leapfrog will become a significant publication for the future.

“Know this, nothing much will happen until after the dust settles and that will take some time.”

Three days later we understood both the prophecy that Rachel had uttered some three weeks before and the foregoing words that ended our first gathering …on September 8, 2001.

______

“Did Darlene have any idea of the magnitude of what she was saying would happen within three days?”

I was putting the question to the group which had now grown to an assembly of about four hundred people sitting in a large hall on folding chairs placed in a semi-circle.

Is being part of a group helpful?

I had asked the same question of four of the men from that original group which had met right here in this building for the first time just three days before September 11, 2001. The four men whom I had invited to lunch were Will Barry, Vic Schneider, Emmanuel Patrick and Darlene’s husband, Jack Adams. Darlene, of course, was the one who received the insight referenced above which so vividly spoke of what the entire world forever-after would refer to as, “9/11.”

Vic had said, “rather than any of us answering that question, why don’t we schedule an open meeting for everyone and have Jeanne come and share …and maybe even open her talk with the question to everyone in the entire assembly?” The other three agreed eagerly and almost in unison said: “Let’s do it!”

______

We really need a building for our group.

The large, two story building in an industrial section of Jacksonville, Florida had been donated to “the group” which was assembled in what had formerly been a huge showroom on the ground floor of what had been an earth-moving machinery dealership – the rest of the complex, originally belonging to the dealership, spanned over thirty acres upon which a variety of departments of the dealership, including maintenance and fabrication facilities, had all now been leased to a variety of companies; those various spaces were now separated from this building by an eight foot high, concrete block wall surrounding the building and the entire parking lot which originally had been primarily for employees of what had been the main location of one of the largest heavy machinery dealerships in the U.S., with branches at Orlando, Sarasota, Pensacola, all in Florida and with one branch in Alabama in the city of Montgomery. The parking lot had 260 parking spaces and was now almost full, as well as all the available street parking for several surrounding blocks, because of the people in attendance for this assembly.

Having a building makes meeting easy.

The man in whose last name the dealership had operated for several years as: “Patrick Tractor and Implement Co., Inc.” gave the introduction to my time before the assembly.

“As many of you know, my name used to be Michael Patrick, but through a rather amazing process my first name was changed to Emmanuel and my wife’s name from Pauline to Elizabeth. Most of you also know the significance of the name change as it relates to some ancestral stuff on both sides of Elizabeth’s and my family dating back to the 1400s in France, Wales and Ireland, the latter, which you can tell, being where I grew up” (Emmanuel had a pronounced Irish brogue).

“My introduction,” he continued, “to the group began late one morning, when several men in a dark green, 10 passenger van, drove onto the parking lot, right outside this building” (gesturing with his right hand), “which was empty at the time, while I was standing and talking to one of my employees. We’d had a sign company put up a huge sign they had painted onto a solid curtain of vinyl hanging down from the roof that was offering the building for lease.

“Basically the men introduced themselves by one of them asking if I was the owner and if I could give them the particulars on the building.

What? Your master needs it?

“When I asked for what purposes they wanted the building, and I found far more than merely intriguing that he said, ‘our Master has need of it.’

“Will Barry, one of the men in the van, later handed me a copy of the Leapfrog Manuscript which was an interview of Brad Cullen conducted by way of e-mail exchange between Brad and our speaker this afternoon, Jeanne Stockwell, who is a professional, free-lance writer whose articles and series have been featured in a variety of major magazines.

“For those of you who have not been here before, or have not read the manuscript and would like to obtain a free copy, please see Will, Colin, Vic Schneider or me after the meeting.

Leapfrog is the written foundation of what we refer to simply as ‘the group;’ which all of you present are members just because you are here. Okay, that’s enough out of me …Jeanne please come and share whatever is on your heart.”

Brad
