Brad, you are leading the sheep astray . . .
Stay away from my sheep!
I’m not going to get into the entire e-mail exchange because it will take YOU off the track of YOU.
The man, informing me he was a pastor, wrote this after a member of his church, a woman, had told him that my book, Being Jesus, had impacted her thinking. He was reacting to the title and hadn’t read the book and, therefore, was missing the point which is explained in the introduction and repeated a few times throughout.
I suggested the man read the book and then comment. He replied, “I thank God there is a way out from the law of sin and death through Jesus Christ, (Romans, chapters 7 & 8) and not through you.”
I said, stay away from my sheep!
I replied that there are myriad ways to interpret that particular passage and that I could only tell him how Jesus, who is alive in me, is telling me how to interpret it for me.
I continued telling him I was free to share that interpretation with him and would, if he wanted, if he would also promise to use it only as his introduction to inviting the living Jesus-the-Christ to live in him and tell him personally how it ought to be interpreted for him.
His response was to call me a “sheep stealer” and a “conman.” I never heard from the man again, but the memory apparently lingers, I just woke up from a dream – in which I was speaking to a church congregation making the same offer I had made to the man in the e-mail.
Jesus told me in the 1990s to stop accepting or attempting to prompt invitations to speak in churches. There might be a time in the future when it would be okay. There were several reasons for that, but he wanted me to be all things to all men and women, no matter what their religion, and I was to stop referring to myself as a Christian because the term meant too many different things to too many different people to communicate anything meaningful to anyone.
Get out of Church…!
Therefore, the dream was a bit unsettling, to put it mildly. That was about an hour ago and it took me several minutes to shake off the fog of sleep and the unsettled feeling.
“What now?” I asked and got to write this and make the same offer no matter what you believe about Jesus or anything or anybody else, to answer any questions.
