Reversing the Process of Aging

Part Eight…the alternatives.

Question: All to What End?

A philosophical question that has been around since …well, since philosophy was invented, is whether our ultimate goal should be to be or to do.

In one of the men’s rooms at a famous hotel (The Fairmount) over thirty years ago, in San Francisco, I saw wisdom printed neatly, in pencil, no less, right in front of my nose while busy being occupied doing something else:

Being is doing – Jean-Paul Sartre

The place where modern philosophers express themselves

Doing is being – William James

Do-be-do-be-do-be – Frank Sinatra

While writing my latest book, The Unrecognized You Discovered, I realized something valuable for me and it became the sub-title, “What Now.” That realization was that getting caught up in the question of being or doing gets me nowhere because it focuses me upon my performance, even when one side of the equation, that is, being, would argue that being is not performing, but just being. The stance taken by William James, one of the father-figures of behavioral psychology was, as you remember, that by doing we become what it is we are doing and, therefore and, again, doing is being.

The mistake I believe we all make is to confuse who we are with what we do. Since my primary activity is writing, I do, quite often, refer to myself as a writer. Here’s the crux of the matter from the viewpoint of Brad Cullen. To what end, do I write? What is my purpose for writing? I mean, like, what’s the point?

I had a visit from someone yesterday who referred to me as a “healer” because he had recently been healed of a rather severe arthritic condition. I had to correct him and remind him of a truth — I didn’t heal him. I reminded of how the event took place …he had asked me if I would pray for him, because he heard that I had a special gift for healing certain things, including arthritis. I told him that I didn’t pray for anyone, Jesus never prayed for anyone to be healed, and neither do I. Jesus never healed anyone either, his SPIRIT-PARENT in him did the work …and often he simply told the person that it was their faith that healed them. Same/same, anyone can do it, once they understand “they” don’t do it!

Can this be overcome?

Okay, back to the point of my writing: How to overcome the feeling of being disconnected …if you are to receive anything from this, here it is: I have nothing to offer anyone except that I do not set out to write anything, I ask our SPIRIT-PARENT, “what now?” …and then wait until I have clarity. I have it now …we’re not supposed to leave the current series on reversing the process of aging just yet.

When I started this article this morning, I thought that we were onto a whole new series of whatever. With relief, quite frankly, I felt we could leave this stuff about getting younger every day behind us. I know some people think Ryan and I are simply being frivolous. We’re not …we are being death-abolished, ETERNAL-LIFE serious – good grief, is this series supposed to live forever too?

What now, Daddy?

It is not “I,” but Christ alive in me.

Well now, I was just nudged to stop writing and go to my in-box – so I obediently stopped writing and read several e-mails that have come in overnight – it is now almost 6:00 a.m. Oops, I’m being nudged to go back to one e-mail in particular. . .

Back again, I’m supposed to insert this one verbatim:

[begin email]

Hi “Brad.”

My son led me to your site shared with Ryan Bruce. I’m very happy to see you back at work on what you do so well.

One of the sad consequences of the endless religious presentation of Christ on the cross, imo, is directing the believer’s focus on a dead Christ rather than a live one.

The metaphysical community has known for a long time that whatever we pay attention to, think on, focus on, we, as creators like, as you would say “our Dad”, then manifest that object or power or reality in our lives.

I used to collect crosses and my kids and friends gave me some beautiful specimens. They are now stored away in boxes because I prefer to manifest the living Christ in me, as me and through me. I don’t even think it is productive to recreate his death repeatedly through the practice of the sacrament, especially for the majority of Christians sitting in pews, being fed poisonous doctrines unchanged for centuries.

Also our words, if we believe them and put appropriate action behind them are powerful to manifest what we speak and think, both good and bad. I don’t recall any preaching on this from the Christian pulpits. Why not?

Like you, Brad, I have believed for a long time Jesus’ revelation that we could do the same things he did. There is lots of evidence for this. If one really believes the scriptures, then one has to accept that we are all joined to God and thus share his attributes and ability to create good. Again, this is not taught in the churches. Why not?

I plan to get a website up and start putting my experiences and series of awakenings to these wonderful, life giving, joy producing experiences. I’m so glad I have found your site and will be enjoying your fresh contributions. I plan to re-read Leap Frog since it has been years since I read it.

I am also working on several writing projects and not sure where they might end up, but much work to be done there. What an exciting time we are privileged to live in, Brad.

Kind Regards,

(Name removed)

[end of e-mail]

I do not have the slightest idea what the significance of this e-mail is; I know only that I am to insert it as is. So, Daddy, what does this have to do with reversing the aging process since your instructions are to keep the series alive?

Holy mackerel, now I’m supposed to insert the following quotes from Sartre and I have to admit that the only reference I’ve ever had to Jean-Paul Sartre was the one etched in my brain that some character had penciled on the wall above a urinal at the Fairmount Hotel referenced at the opening…

Listen Carefully to Jean-Paul

Everything has been figured out, except how to live.

A lost battle is a battle one thinks one has lost.

Hell is other people.

When the rich wage war, it’s the poor who die.

If you are lonely when you’re alone, you are in bad company.

Being is. Being is in-itself. Being is what it is.

Dad just told me not to miss the miracle of the moment …this NOW moment. I don’t know how many of you have ever heard of, or experienced, “holy laughter,” but I asked just now, “What miracle?”…and Dad flashed the countless ones that are going on in my life today, NOW and I could not stop the bubbling over of laughter from sheer and pure joy.

He is also instructing me to urge all of you to get serious with Ryan and me about reversing the process of aging, NOW.

Next up (in Part Nine) we’ll get back to the spiritual causes of aging and other stuff and how to get on the path of spiritually and mentally overcoming it …but for now tune in to see what on earth Ryan makes of this article. Podcast 52 Jan 14 2011 Reversing the aging process pt 8 alt
